May 2015 - Thanks to generous funding from the McCarthey Dressman Foundation, Blake Hamilton, a former student at Southwind High School, Memphis, Tennessee, and currently a 2nd year pre-med student at Tennessee State University, had the opportunity to travel this past May on a medical mission trip to Haiti with LiveBeyond.
"LiveBeyond is a faith-based, humanitarian organization based in Nashville, Tennessee, bringing medical and maternal health care, clean water, education, orphan care, community development and the gospel of Jesus Christ to the oppressed in Thomazeau, Haiti." (LiveBeyond.org) LiveBeyond started as a mobile medical disaster relief after Hurricane Katrina and has evolved into providing medical missions in Ghana, Mozambique Iraq, Honduras and South Africa. They were also the first responders after the devastating earthquake struck Haiti in 2010 and their work continues to aide individuals and communities in parts of Haiti that are still trying to recover and rebuild.
Blake had an amazing and eye-opening experience. Here is an accounting of his time in Haiti. We hope you enjoy this and that it might inspire others to participate in helping those less fortunate in the world.
